EffiSciences
EffiSciences is a French effective-altruism-adjacent organization that incubates impactful research projects in academia, with a particular focus on AI safety. It is best known as the parent organization of CeSIA and the originator of ML4Good.
Origins
EffiSciences was created as a student-origin organization to promote impactful research in French academia. Its AI Safety Unit delivers courses at ENS Paris-Saclay and ENS Ulm, organizes hackathons (Collège de France, École 42, Meta, ENS Ulm), and supervises student research on interpretability and AI safety.
ML4Good
Started as a project of EffiSciences in France in 2022, ML4Good is now an internationally replicated AI safety bootcamp:
- Format: 10-day intensive on deep learning + AI safety governance + conceptual topics
- Replication: Switzerland, Germany, UK, Brazil, Colombia, Italy, and continuing
- EU funding: EU Commission–funded
- Impact: 1,000+ students reached; 30+ oriented toward AI safety careers
- Endorsement rate: 98% participant recommendation
- Curriculum architect: Charbel-Raphaël Ségerie
Spinout: CeSIA
In May 2024, EffiSciences spun off CeSIA as a dedicated AI safety think tank for France and Europe — separating field-building (EffiSciences) from policy/research (CeSIA).
